Sports or Remedial Massage?

Clients often ask what is the difference between Sports and Remedial Massage?

Well, the techniques used are the same but the aim is slightly different.

A Sports Massage will help you recover from your training with myofascial release, assisted stretches and trigger point therapy when appropriate. The massage can be light and frisk just after an event or deep and slow a few days after that same event. If you are training for a triathlon or you simply go to the gym to stay fit a sports massage will help maintain your body at its highest potential and reduce the risk of injuries.

A Remedial Massage will assist everyone regardless of their activity level, whether you have sciatica pain from seated at a desk all day, experience headaches, high stress level or recovering from an injury. A remedial massage will either focus on one area or bring balance in a more holistic way and treat the whole body.

A slight soreness can occur the next day with either of those treatments but you will feel a reduction in pain, an increase of range of motion and you will leave feeling very relaxed.

Deep Tissue Massage

A deep Tissue Massage will target the deeper layer of muscle and connective tissue with a high amount of tension/adhesion. The whole body or specific areas can be targeted. A "Kick back" pain, very similar to the one happening after an intense workout, can happen the following day.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is an exciting time for expectant mums. It can also be physically and emotionally demanding. The body is constantly changing to accommodate a growing baby and in preparation of the birth itself.

Our pregnancy massage is emotionally and physically balancing in order to create a greater sense of health and wellbeing during this special time. It is designed to relieve muscle aches and joint pain, and improving circulation and mobility.

The following conditions are often addressed during a pregnancy massage:

  • Back pain

  • Headaches

  • Oedema

  • Muscular aches and pain

  • Fatigue

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Hip discomfort

  • Stress and more….

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

A dry massage using very light and slow strokes, the Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) involves a specialized massage technique, which stimulates over 70% of the lymphatic system.

The lymphatic system is the body purification system that keeps the fluid balance within the body. It is a circulatory system that runs parallel to the blood circulation.

MLD promotes optimum functioning of the tissue fluid balance, cellular waste removal and the immune system.

It relieves swelling post-surgery or fluid retention in pregnancy. Boost the immune system, helps with chronic sinusitis etc…

Very soothing, MLD relaxes the nervous system and indirectly relaxes the muscles.

Cupping

Cupping is a therapy in which a vacuumed cup is placed on the body. The cupping mechanism exerts suction on the surface of the body and increases blood flow to the treated area stimulating muscle tissues.

Cupping has profound effects on stiff and aching muscles activating the secretion of synovial fluids thereby alleviating muscle stiffness. as well as helping to realign and balance ligaments and bones.

People feel relaxed and warm with a tingling sensation during the treatment.

Please, note that cupping can cause localised bruising. While this is not detrimental to the treatment, it can be visible for a number of days.

Cupping can be booked as a 30 minutes session or be part of a Sports or Remedial Massage

Lomi Lomi Massage

Hawaiian massage, Lomi Lomi consists in long, flowing, dance-like strokes using the forearms and generous amount of oil. With long rhythmic stroke that vary in depth and intensity and continuous movement around the body, Lomi Lomi is a deeply relaxing massage transporting you into a meditative state. Excellent to release the physical, mental and emotional stress that modern life can throw at us.

Lomi Lomi could be described as feeling similar to floating in a lagoon by the sea. Sometimes you feel gentle waves of energy moving across the body and at other times they will be deep and powerful surf.

Because of the use of oil and for the flow of the massage it is preferable to receive Lomi Lomi without any clothes; you will be kept covered with a sarong throughout the massage.

Peggy provides the best massages I’ve ever had, combining her years of experience and techniques to fully tailor them. Peggy is also gets to know her clients, is very easy to talk to and kind. I would highly recommend Peggy to anyone wanting a quality massage
